Post by ango » Wed Feb 14, 2018 2:21 pm

Went out from Lakes Entrance yesterday, hard to believe the calm conditions were only 24 hours ago. Managed a small gummy & a few yank flathead, heaps of small couta around and some small school sharks, anyway a good day on the water.

can't flathead for a feed. Went out with a mate on Tuesday. 4 large flatties and a 6kg snapper. Lost another snapper and we hooked a large shark on a balloon rig. It busted off after taking about 100mtrs of line. There was no stopping it on the light game rod.
It was a nice day out there.
Had to take the coast guard out to tow a boat yesterday, wind was 60knts. Vessel had dragged its mooring in the north arm. Was a bit of fun getting it off the beach.
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

My effort this morning.
Had to test the motor after last weeks issues. Did a quick blast up the lake, all seemed good. Headed out over the bar and 20 minutes later stopped at a favourite rock. Two minutes later my light rod goes nuts and I am battling what feels like a very large snapper. It only had a 2/0 hook on it. Half way up out of 40mtrs and slack line. Straightened the hook out. Oh well tough. Left it out of the water and just used the heavy rod with 5/0 s on it. Another minute and bang down she goes. Short but easier battle and a nice 50cm snapper on the deck. Baited it up dropped it over and changed the rig on the lighter rod. Dropped it in too. As you would guess the light rig barely gets to the bottom and zing off it goes. As I slowly battle another one up, I hear the heavy rig start taking line. Not much I can do about that. Finally get my light rig up with a 50cm plus snapper on it. net it get it on the deck and look at the heavy rig. Slack line. ho hum, so better pull it in and see what has happened. Two cranks of the reel and the weight comes on and dopy the snapper wakes up, and is off. A bit more of a battle and a 56cm snapper is in the net. So been there less than 15 minutes and I am bagged out.
Thought about going and chasing a flattie and then thought hey it is 8am Sunday morning, I will just zip back in and have 2nd breakfast. Boat cleaned and fish filleted by 9am.
