Squid-Land Based-Rosebud to Portsea
Hey Guys
A couple of mates and myself are heading down to the holiday house in Rye this weekend and are keen to give Squidding a try. Where should we be hitting up?
Any advice will be great as we are complete novices
Thanks

I'm sure a few LB members will chime in but Mt Martha rocks and pretty much all the piers along there produce squid. Good luck mate and looking forward to hearing your report!

Portsea pier usually produces so give it a try, you should all get on to a squid there.

I was down there 2 weeks ago and rye pier was producing. Good luck though because as soon as you catch 1 everyone throws where your line just was.
Its like seagulls fighting over a chip
Sorrento pier and portsea piers were slow whilst i went there.

Portsea Pier or Blairgowrie Pier is always good early morning rather than walking down cliff faces to get to Mt Martha Rocks for Squid

Re: Squid-Land Based-Rosebud to Portsea
As a rule, Sorrento or Martha rocks.
Sorrento if I'm chasing bigger squid, Mr Martha if I'm after smaller, whole bait, models.
Mr Martha, I prefer top of tide-ish sort of times, and normally before sunset.
Sorrento, weird spot, can kick in at any sort of tide stage, at any time of day or night. Last time, a couple of weeks back, it was after dark when it kicked in to gear, then I had a school of them right up at the pylons...
Really looking forward to some winter squiding this year, last year was dynamite, never seen so.many big squid caught in a season.
