If you’re using a float and jig spike try putting a whole silver Whiting on it

Ah i have some jig spike but i will only be using 3.5 jig and 3.0 jigs. Do you think they might be a little heavy?

I heard sometimes that they will spoke the squid if to heavy.

You’ve been spoon feed a lot of good info here! All of which I agree with. The rest is up to you to put some time in!
Last three quick tips from me!
Northern part of the bay - have jigs down to 2.5. On average they are smaller squid and a smaller jig may get the more timid ones
Vary the way you retrieve the jig
If you’re not getting any on that day, try a different area!
Good luck

Thanks everyone, I hoping to be up early and have a crack at it.

Those gillies squid jigs with a float and a very long leader are they designed to be dropped off boats?

I will be looking fortward to landing a few squid and thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I have quite good luck at beaumauris jetty, from the left hand side and the right hand side about a third of the way down the jetty onwards. I just cast out, let it sink for 5 seconds and rip it 3-5 times. Red and white jigs work the best

Thanks for the info.

Do you use a EGI rod and what kind of reel?

Are you on braided line or mono?

Does wind direction makes a difference?
I find that sunrise or sunset with none to a little wind work best. I use 8lb braid, 15lb mono leader. I just use a normal spinning rod, don't believe it make that much difference

Lots of good information, you can only improve your catch rate if you put it into practise and be proactive in trying different times, tides, jigs ect.

I want do more land base squid fishing, lots to learn and want more help on what works and what doesn't work.

For land base is it best to fishing on a low tide to an incoming high tide?

Is it better morning or late arvo?

Does wind direction matter when squid fishing?

What good videos and tips can you suggest?

I would like to try around St Kilda, Brighton or around those areras
I have caught many in front of the baths on the left hand side at Brighton and also further up the pier off the rocks from around the bend. Further up the road at Beaumaris can be very good and also mordi but that’s a bit further.
