Surf Fishing Conditions help

Post by Darkhorse » Sat Jun 23, 2018 10:10 pm

Gday guys,
First up want to say a big thanks for all the tips you guys have me on me previous post. My first surf fishing trip which was about a month ago was a success. Landed my
First snapper(decent size pinkie) off the surf and a couple of
Small salmon.

Anyway I ventured out today along the Great Ocean Road, wind was a south south westerly. Now I arrived at low tide to
Fish the incoming tide, I went and had a look at breamlea, point road knight, hut gully and easternview. Landed wrasse, port Jackson and a big arse stingray. I found I was struggling to cast
Over the breakers into the cleaner water,I was wading out and all. Seaweed was also a problem.

So what I'd like to know/learn is...::
-on those shallower types of beaches like hutt gully, easternview etc is it better fishing at low tide so you can cast
In more productive water or is it better at high tide?

-when surf fishing the great ocean road what type
Of wind is ideal? I found I was struggling casting over the breakers today and the seaweed was also a problem.

-what are the more productive beaches along the Great Ocean Road if time was not an issue, I have a few days off coming up
And will look to do an overnighter somewhere.

Johanna Beach is one place if your chasing big salmon, at night some extra large gummys make it interesting.
He who has the most fishing rods WINS ! :ts:

Yea was reading a report recently of Australian salmon up to 4.5 kilos being taken from that beach! Wish it was closer. The missus and I would be down there for sure.

My most productive has been high tide and north wind. Can cast further, the cliffs provide great shelter and the fish seem.to come in closer.

The surf coast has been slow this year they haven't come in like they normally do. Hutt gully all the way to easternview is very shallow with gutters hard to come by.

Did you catch the wrasse off the surf, must of been very snaggy bottom?
