heading out the entrance

Post by phil1818 » Fri Jul 13, 2018 6:38 pm

Hi guys just looking for a bit of advice on heading out offshore through the western entrance in a 5.5m crownline bowrider. I have gone up there a couple of times now but backed out after watching some decent sized rollers come through right up near Flinders, I assume once you boat through and get to the other side it much like the bay? rather be safe then sorry so any advice on how to go about getting out would be appreciated. cheers

Run out tide will be wind with tide but could push the rollers up if there’s any significant waves above the forecast.

Run in wind against could be a bit tricky. But you should be ok

My advice, for any bar or entrance trip for the first time, Take someone with you that's experienced and has done it a few times.

Is it basically a stretch of dodgy water then calms back down on the other side?

Thats probably the roughest condition i would head.out in.
If your pulling lures its bit better but just floating can roll a.bit
