Snow and rainbows

Post by samjas1316 » Sun Sep 16, 2018 5:27 pm

Decided on a last minute solo mission to Moorabool Reservoir today. I take a box of lures and a backpack and let the boys sleep in.

Quick brekky at Maccas Ballan and you know it's cold when the car "warns" you of low temps (1°C) outside.

Arrived to this.

Lucky I have plenty of layers on. Walked in and saw that the water level was up. It looked promising.

Tried to fish the wall when a GMW worker in a ute came up and said "geez your keen" before letting me know I couldn't fish there. That was fine, plenty of shore line available anyway.

In between snow showers there was a little bit of sun.

A couple of baitos turn up so I wasn't the only mad one out here. The first hour resulted in some missed hook ups and dropped fish before I finally managed this.

A couple of lures guys turn up and after some more walking I get another.

Both fish although small give a good account of themselves and are released to get bigger.

The last hour goes by very quietly and after walking all the way to the opposite bank from the wall I decide to head back. I do one last flick near the bait guys. One of them gets two decent browns in quick succession and I stay a little bit longer hoping for some action but nothing happens. All in all not a bad little session. Hopefully I eventually land one of those big browns in there. Lure that did the damage was a 12g gold and black wasaby spoon.

Nice report and pics! I fished up there a few times this winter, in what I thought were pretty chilly conditions but I never saw any snow.
