Surf fishing Anglesea
Went out this morning to try get some salmon action off Anglesea surf beach. Arrived at 10am and made the long trek from carpark to fishing spot only to find that I left the bait at home, absolute catastrophe but lucky I had my trusty metal slug on me so all good. 5 casts later and the bloody thing snapped off and flew into the middle of the ocean like a rocket. Stupid bail arm on reel flipped back on my super mega cast, only had the one lure and looked like I had to pull the pin n call it a day but a generous fisho next to me had to leave urgently so he gave me a small bag of his pilchard. I tied a simple double drop rig with size 2/0 gama hooks laced with flashy beads and a star sinker. Chopped pilly into cutlets and threw them on, first cast only took 5 minutes before rod buckles, a short fight beaching a nice 35cm salmon. Second cast got smashed as soon as sinker hits the bottom, double header both similar size. An hour later the inevitable has happened, bait ran out. 15 salmons caught all up, 2 mullet and a surprise pinkie that went 43cm, biggest salmon went 56cm overall great session had, left them biting and I'll make sure to bring bait next time. Rod used is a 12ft Penn prevailer paired with Penn Battle ll reel loaded with 15 lb J braid slim beautied to 10 meters of 20 lb mono. Cheers

Which beach at Anglesea did you fish? Looks almost productive as at Point Addis! Nice haul....Kenle wrote:Went out this morning to try get some salmon action off Anglesea surf beach.

Re: Surf fishing Anglesea
Great report, thanks for sharing.
Please dont forget the bait next time hahaha.
snapoffs cannot be avoided, but if it snapped at the leader and braid connection, then try and keep the knot outside the guides when surf casting..
