First rod and reel setup - all rounder (budget friendly)
Re: First rod and reel setup - all rounder (budget friendly)
G'day Bryce
:welcome2:
I agree with option D , , , , "all of the above"
Around the 6 1/2 to 7 ft rod, I would lean towards a 4000 series reel first up, myself. This combo would cover more options as a start up combo. Thing is, if you wish to get into soft plastics/lures etc a bit more as time gets on, then that can be your second rod/reel and this rod/reel combo (with the 4000) can then become more a bait combo. The 4000 would still do soft plastics/lures/jigs (not as great as a 2000/2500) but wouldn't limit you as much for the bigger sizes of fish options.
Then, as a second rod/reel combo (down the track) a 2000 series reel combo would be better as it would then start focusing what and how you fish, especially that, with a start up 4000, you have learnt what YOU then prefer your next reel/combo to do, hence the 2000 which as a spin/lure would be better suited to you as an always holding/casting combo. Instead of a first combo educated guess.
But then, I do admit, I do fish reel heavy, hence the 4000
Oh, oh , , , , just in case we take it for granted, I now, always choose reels that have an "infinity anti-reverse" feature (that's where the bale arm spinny bit (very technical, yes, I know) doesn't have a backward movement)
Cheers, and have fun

Dont get a Shimano Sedona. I finally have worked out the drag issue problem and it has a serious design fault in the drag. I fixed it but had to completely ditch its drag system and replace it.
I'll take some pics and explain its design fault in a day or two. Contacted Shimano and they dont want to know. Just dont buy a Sedona.

Hey guys,
Went out for 4 hours Saturday, caught and released some small flattys, caught and released a small 7 gill, but got 2 good pan size pinkys.
