Jason, I would say the same. Try a Pier if you can get there.
And, maybe, start off with a "gathering" on a Pier with any members that are going for a fish for some squid and build from that. I'm sure if some are going they would say "Hi" and spending time on a Pier with people in the know, you'd be able to pick up some tricks and hopefully some squid too.
Sorry, Jas, I'm in SA, otherwise I'd arrange to meet you on a Pier and help you out.
Cheers, Bugatti Undieman

Jason if those southern end piers are too far for you to go to, try Beaumaris or even mordialloc piers mate.
I have caught plenty of nice squid from both those piers

My biggest squid (45cm hood) and most squid caught in a session (15) were down at beaumauris, it's a beautiful little spot. Cast out to either the left or the right of the pier depending on the wind.Lightningx wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2019 4:53 pmJason if those southern end piers are too far for you to go to, try Beaumaris or even mordialloc piers mate.
