Barwon Heads Snapper Gummy School shark
Barwon Heads Snapper Gummy School shark
Was able to get back out again yesterday and straight to the same spot as my last report. Was a little fresh with 12knot winds and 1.5m seas but I was lucky to have a deckhand as I'm usually solo. Not long after getting the burley going we were able to hook up some nice slimy on the sibiki rig for bait and even a few couta on p noster rigs. A short time after we got on to a few pinkie then I noticed a big school of boomerangs on the finder and bang two rods go off.... tangled galore but with some luck we managed to get one Snapper on board 70cm 6KG a personal best for my deck hand with a massive smile from ear to ear. Reorganised and hour later a few big runs resulting in break offs under guned I think very very heavy and massive runs taking 250m 0f line at times, very exciting and long battles but no luck. Then we managed a solid hook up and landed a beautiful 15.2kg gummy a very first for my mate ... wow... what a day for him... then as we are about to call it a day while cleaning up another massive run... a first again for my mate we land a 14.1kg school shark.... what a day... all on fresh slimy mackerel as bait and pilchard cubes thrown overboard every 10min with a stream of tuna pellets out of the burley pot.

Wow what a day that's great. Are the schoolies the same taste as gummies? Where do you launch from ? Barwon or through the heads ?
Congratultions to you both

Re: Barwon Heads Snapper Gummy School shark
The school sharks taste close to the same as gummy in my opinion. I launch out of Ocean Grove and more time than not try to find a drop off straight out past the bluff in 25m - 30m of water and anchor up over top. Chimney rock reef is a great starting point I find and any drop off around it has been very productive. In on the reef or to close mostly results in pickers and leather jackets but early and late season snapper can be caught in large numbers off the edges in my experience. TIGHT LINES
