Free Boat Ramps

Post by Mattblack » Tue Jul 09, 2019 9:09 am

Just looked at the Bass Coast Shire website and noticed the ramps are all free as of July 1st 2019
( https://www.basscoast.vic.gov.au/explor ... boat-ramps )
Does anyone know if any other of the councils have done the same thing?
*Edit...just contacted Mornington Shire Council, all they have done is made the annual pass obsolete (ie, you can now only buy a day pass)
*Edit....Hobsons Bay Council said they will be announcing something regarding this in about 2 weeks

Great news all round.
I guess this means busier boat ramps too ?
Remember that horrid image of boats on trailers backed up in the early hours on Station Street Altona a few years back.
That’s crazy.
Anyway for me no fees means a fair bit.
Generally the ramp fee cost is only $15-20 but I don’t live anywhere near a ramp so I go all over the place - like the wind ha ha. Literally.
Queenscliff or Sorrento is almost a 2 hour drive for me so that little saving means more bait, petrol or ice money.
Or a visit to the colonel on my way home ha ha.

Great news. I have been waiting for this (as we all have).

I dont really see how the ramps will be any busier.. its not like people were using some secret free ramp and will now come to the regular ramps instead.

It will get busier because now people with no trailers will also start parking in the trailer park areas. Which also means you cannot launch as there's no place to.park your trailer.
It already happens at a lot ramps and it will only get worse..
