Hi guys, with the lack of reports I thought I’d write a quick report from last nights session.
My mate and I have been on the hunt for our first red for a few weeks now without any luck. Just a few pinkies till now.
Last night it was a beautiful night to be on the water. Was slightly choppy when we arrived at our destination but the wind died down and by the time we left it was almost glass calm.
The plan was to just sit back and relax with a spread of fresh baits out the back of the boat.
My friend and I went to Springvale market earlier on and bought some fresh slimy mackerel for the evening session.
I also brought along one vac sealed squid I had caught from a bait collecting session and some fresh pillies from the market as well.
Launched around 4:30 and arrived at our spot by 5. Plenty of boats around but we stayed away from the pack to find our own quiet spot.
4 baits out the back each with different baits.
I tied a sp, just for some fun on my squid setup and didn’t take long till I was reeling in pinkies just undersize around the 26-27 mark. The baits were getting smashed by these smaller pinkies as well. Was great fun just catching these things on light gear.
The Sp I was using was a zman curly tailed grub.
I was still catching plenty even after the sun had gone down but gave it a miss and decided to sit back and burley and put some big baits out for a decent size red.
Some legal size pinkies started coming on board and then we had a big buckle with line peeling but the fish went under the boat and the line rubbed up against the anchor chain/rope and broke!
Ahhh well. We were both a bit devastated but that’s part of fishing!
We did catch a few legal pinkies just size at 28 but let them go and just kept 5 over 30.
Was a fun night with dinner and some laughs and some fish as well.
Definitely not one of our best sessions but was a beautiful night in the end just sitting back and discussing plans for the up coming season
Cheers,
LX.

At least the you got the rod bending and had fun.

It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them
