Need info of Grammar school lagoon
Hi all,
People have been catching good fish and I'm keen to get to it on the yak. The weather hasn't been very friendly, the wind has been blowing a bit hard for the yak.
I heard plenty about grammar school lagoon and limeburners area, that it is sheltered enough to fish when the wind isn't so friendly. But I have no clue where to start.
Anyone here willing to share some info? There's few places on Google man to launch, but what about the area? Weed bed? Sand flat? Channel? Depth? Fish the drop off or the buoy/marker? Anchor or drift?
Anything please.

Re: Need info of Grammar school lagoon
Geoff wilson's book "fishing geelong & bellarine peninsula" has the lagoon listed in it.. well worth buying.
I used to spear flounder there many years ago and on a recent trip the place is silted up so no good for flounder anymore IMO.
Yak fishing should be ok, get the book I have it but haven't read it in years.

FWIW, saw plenty of kayaks, between Webb Dock and Station Pier, yesterday morning; water was great (between 0500 and 0900).

Yea been planning to go there too, but this bloody weather sucks!
Note, I'm a bit scared to go out on my yak when the wind is more than 25kmh, or even 20kmh.

Grammar school lagoon is sheltered from most weather conditions.
There are lots of bream that live under the yachts and also someone got a good EP there a while ago. In a month the flatties will move in and they are great fun and good size. There is a hole (or there used to be) to the right of the entrance as you come in from the bay that you would catch anything out of but this was a long time ago. Good luck with your pursuits.

Re: Need info of Grammar school lagoon
There's some easy spots to launch the kayak very close by and it's small enough to not chop up too much in strong wind. The carparks at the ramp and other launch spots have a bit of a reputation for having **** stolen while people are out fishing so don't leave anything valuable in there (or adopt my strategy of driving such a junk-filled piece of **** that no one in their right mind would break into it).
It used to have a reputation as a primo winter snapper spot (although apparently it isn't so good any more). I've got gummies in the channel and some decent gars at night. I've also seen huge pike, some decent flathead in the weed, squid, whiting, really big mullet, LJs, and whiting there while drifting around after dark. I've heard of bream being caught and rumours of jews - it looks like a jewey sort of area but who knows with those bloody things.
It's mostly a seagrass bottom where I've been with a few muddy/sandy patches, I assume it's like that all over but I haven't been further in than the boats. You'll want to weedless-rig any plastics you use.
I've circled the area I've been told the snapper get caught (which is similar to what canned_tuna has mentioned above)

Re: Need info of Grammar school lagoon
Ah I see, thanks all.
The weedy bottom can be annoying to cast plastic for snapper.
How deep is the water there?
Worth going to north shore instead?

Re: Need info of Grammar school lagoon
Could be, the rocks at North Shore drop straight down into 10m or so. You need to keep an eye out for ships because that area is very close to the channel.
I've never launched at Moorpanyal Park but I assume it can be done and is only a short trip from there to the rocks. My main concern would be parking as I think it's a reasonably popular spot for beach goers but if you get there early enough or the weather is **** enough that shouldn't be an issue.
Its got a decent reputation for land based snapper but I have no idea what else you'd get there - probably less variety than the lagoon.
