The rovex is just garbage.
Put some extra $$$ and get something better.
Ns Blackwater, major craft solpara etc..
I would wait for the Christmas sales to start soon, might be some bRgains to be had.
Tackleworld is having a big daiwa sale on atm, so have a look there as well.
Cheers

Hi all,
gotten into the landbased squid game recently, and have been thinking of purchasing an egi rod. I currently run a 7ft shimano ballistix rod paired with a 2500 legalis for cephs, but have been having a hard time working jigs and casting. Did some looking and found a rovex squid specialist on sale for $50. If I were to buy it, what would I pair with it? Are there any other brands/models you'd recommend for a beginner? Other advice or help I'd appreciate heaps.
thanks, ronan

I caught my first 1000 or so squid on 7ft shimano cheap sticks. First on an eclipse which I think I paid $9 for, then a 1-3 catana then a 3-6 impact nano.

That rod you are using is just as good as a cheapo squid rod you will barely notice the difference if you upgrade.

Believe it or not, infathomably, I agree with Purple. Without spending $300 on an unnecessary cool kid squid rod, the Majorcraft Solparra is an excellent stick.

Wish I could spend $400 on AGS Emeraldas. The $120 Solpara is good enough for me, already much better than squid fishing with $25 kmart rod.
Each to their own I guess.

How did you come to that conclusion? $120 for a quality spin rod is entirely value for money.

Saw that this morning.
In my opinion, the 7'6 is good when on a boat or a kayak. 8'6 is good for landbased.

Used solpara did not feel it's was worth it compared to getting 2or 3 rovex for similar price.. and did not like action feel of rod...

Have not used black hole or anything else so can not comment...

I'm sure solpara is good for some fishermen....
