Rye boat ramp
Hey everyone!
Hope you all been keeping well during these fun times.
I was wondering if anyone is familiar with the rye boat ramp. I am planning to head out (weather permitting), but trying to understand a few things to prepare my self:
1. what wind direction and knots are ideal?
2. How safe is it to launch out of Rye on low tide? I’m in a smaller Stacer 4.65.
3. Is there anything I should be concerned or worried about?
4. If anyone is keen to share any spots I am happy to hear about them
I have been launching from Altona for as long as I can remember, so i always get a little paranoid when launching from some where else but I guess I have to get used to it now!
Look forward to hearing some great insights!!!

Re: Rye boat ramp
The ramp has a shallow water warning at moment it is due to dredged ,go out 2-3 hrs either side of high tide .The is exposed to westerly and northerly winds

Re: Rye boat ramp
Thanks for that Sandef. That’s good to know!
This may be a terrible question, but not sure what you mean by the wind. I thought southernly wind would have been ideal as it was coming from the land which would mean the calmest water. Is that not the right interpretation?

Re: Rye boat ramp
The ramp is exposed to the northerly and westerly winds making it harder to launch and retrieve and water will be rougher due to the long reach of the bayJoker91 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 22, 2021 9:07 pmThanks for that Sandef. That’s good to know!

I guess Sunday is looking like the only possible day to go this week. I’ll be sure to make the most of it !

Re: Rye boat ramp
Bloody rough! Got a few good days on the water, but it doesn’t seem like I’ll be out there again any time soon.
