spinners, small hardbodies (less than 70mm), small metal lures and just recently sp's that's just about everything for me.

Re: Best lures for trout in rivers?
Soft plastics I have never tried but there are some patterns / lures that I will mention. Rapala Jointed Minnows are worth a try. The 'Glass Minnow' Rapala Husky Jerk has also been useful for me. Also the Rapala 'Alburnus' and 'Minnow' pattern have done well. In regards to spinners, I am now turning to spinners that have the shaft go through the blade. This reduces line twist, if not eliminating it. Panther Martin spinners are an example of this as well as Blue Fox Vibrax Bullet Fly spinners (haven't tried the Bullet Fly yet).

Small striped celtas, wonder wobblers, tassie devils and shallow diving hardbodies.
Re: Best lures for trout in rivers?
Small floating rapalas, luckycraft minnows and yo zuri pins minnow are my go to lures for stream work. Got my hands on the strike tiger nymphs from SFP but havent had a chance to use them in the fresh yet. They received plenty of attention from pinkies and toadies at the beach. Have heard from many sources that daiwa double clutch is hard to go past when fishing lakes for troutskis. Ive never caught a trout on a spinner and its not for lack of trying!!! I know they catch fish, my mate swears by them but they have never produced for me
When I got time,
I wet a line cos Im a junkie,
been fishin since a kid,
I like it cos it numbs me..

My favorite in small streams are slim minnow profiles like ecogear mx48's and strike pro smelta's. I've caught 90% of my stream fish on these.
I've never had much luck with rapala's for what ever reason!
