21.5.19 - Beaumaris to Williamstown

Post by SteveoTheTiger » Tue May 21, 2019 3:06 pm

Just got back from a pretty uneventful trip.

Launched from Newport just before first light and powered straight down to Ricketts Point in an effort to replicate The Big Al's post from the other day.

There was a forecasted 20kmh northerly blowing and some slight chop, less than half a metre.

I sounded up what may have been some pinkies and anchored. We dropped baits and had a flick with some soft plastics. The baits were being taken immediately, probably undersized pinkies. But within minutes i heard that familiar sound of a seal blowing air and sure enough a massive mark showed on the sounder right before one surfaced right next to the boat. We pulled anchor and headed further south.

We anchored up again right off the point, a few hundred metres out of the marine park. Once again we were losing baits immediately, but nothing big came along.

We then moved around the point towards Mentone and i sounded up another school which we dropped on. Straight away we got an undersized pinkie, but that was it.

The wind and waves were picking up by now at almost 1 metre. We tried to punch through straight across to Altona but the weather got the best of us with spray constantly coming over the windscreen and we followed the coast back up to St. Kilda before heading across to Altona Reef, then Rifle Range and then Willy beach.. all with no bites or squid at all.

We headed back in just after lunch time, with no fish. We definitely tried hard today but unfortunately a pretty boring report.
The only thing better than serenity is a two stroke at full throttle!

Sounds like a similar day to the one me and my mate had last week.
We covered a lot of ground with not much to show. Micro pinkies in plague proportions!
Always next time :)
Cheers.
