Best and worst commentators

Post by kenzie101 » Tue Jun 11, 2019 6:06 pm

Listening and watching a bit of sport lately, footy, cricket, tennis etc. A large variety of commentating styles on display. Who are your favorites and who do you turn the volume down for?

Seems to me some commentators think they are bigger than the game and others actually add value in explaining the finer points.

Others seem to antagonize in the media to promote their own media careers.

Cheers,
Mark.

BT and Ling ******* suck. Most of the old Channel 9 cricket commentary team were also ******* terrible. I used to listen to the 12th Man just to be reminded of what decent commentary was like. I haven't watched much of 7's coverage so I'm not sure if they're much of an improvement. I don't know if Damien Barrett does commentary but his articles are putrid, and half the clubs won't talk to him any more he's made up that much crap over the years.

I like the guys they get on ABC Grandstand for both the footy and the cricket. Kerry O'Keefe was (still is I guess but I don't listen to Triple M) an absolute gem, that bit with the naga chilies should go down in cricketing folklore.

All hail Bruce

I like commentators that are informed, it's not about them (did you hear that James Brayshaw , , , , nob), humble and mostly light hearted.
Doesn't leave many

All hail Bruce

Basil ******* Zemplis ***** me to tears. Won't forget his call of Richmond vs Freo a few years back where the tigers got a sizeable jump on the undefeated Dockers. For 2 and a half quarters even into the last 5 minutes with a still sizeable deficit he was still claiming Freo were coming to take the lead.

The rest I don't care about. Only watch 1 game a week these days on my phone. Voume only gets turned on when I'm doing something else just so I can keep tabs on the flow of the game. AFL is ****** these days

I enjoy watching v8s but Mark Skaife can get really annoying he is a one eyed Holden supporter who is always talking them up.

Larko is the best V8 commentator.
