Bittern Reservoir marron and yabbies

Tried last night with about 15 hoops nets between 3 of us. Throwing them far out, close in, edge of the reeds, tried everything. Not a single yabby or a marron.

The one where Cam got stuck halfway down the cliff was a fun day
Then nearly died on the walk back out cos he'd brought 600ml of water and packet of twisties for a 20 hour trip.
And I thought I was mad taking one bottle of water on a very hard bike ride in the mountains...

Vic irrigation channels

Is it worth driving there all the way from Melbourne or are they generally just full of carp and small reddies? Also are you allowed to launch a small ducky on them and drift downstream?

Re: Where to catch Bronzies landbased.

Punchbowl is as good a place as any and before anyone tells me its a dangerous place, I'd like to point out that you do not have to fish the rock ledge, which besides being dangerous is normally crowded with people, and that there is a comfortable beach about 200m wide right below the footpath to th...

Not sure about cicadas, but black crickets are good bait. Fished with them in Hopkins River last April, on the way from work at Mortlake and trout loved them.

Re: Hike in overnight remote fishing

Fishing where few people if ever fish is a fantastic experience and likely to produce better than average results. I myself prefer river rafting to somewhere, where no-one fishes and fishing can be amazing. But a lot of truly remote place can only be reached by hiking, I still got lakes Barracouta a...

Murray crayfish season coming up

Could anyone give some general location tips? Should I fish in backwaters, in the fast current os somewhere where the current slows down, like river bends? Deep or shallow? It's likely I'll fish the Goulburn, just not sure what area, Yea, Trawool or Tabilk.

Re: Fisheries media release - Boat seized for illegal whiting haul

https://vfa.vic.gov.au/enforcement/fisheries-officers# Powers of fisheries officers Thanks for the link, now I know that Fisheries have some of the Water Police and Forest Ranger powers, which is not a bad thing really, as they would be likely to encounter unlawful behavior. As long as they cannot ...

Re: Fisheries media release - Boat seized for illegal whiting haul

What happens is fisheries officers will cordinate a property search with police officers as police can search without a warranty under some conditions. Police and fisheries work very closely together. https://www.gallantlaw.com.au/victorian-property-searches-and-your-legal-rights/ "Typically, a pol...

Re: Fisheries media release - Boat seized for illegal whiting haul

I think the poachers need heavy punishment but if the fish officer did enter the property uninvited then they should take some responsibility for that. If police entered property without a warrant, or a legitimate excuse( like an invitation or sounds of violence etc), then its quite likely the resu...
