Re: Lake trout bait tips

I found that maggots work well in all the Kyneton lakes, but it has been a while since I've given the Lauriston much of a go. Scrub worms are another bait to keep in mind.

Re: Lauriston res.

Great report. I tend to concentrate on the Malmsbury and the Upper Coliban, but it might be worth taking another look at the Lauriston as well.

Re: Carp herpes virus - alarm bells ringing

@Truedogz True enough if you are only looking at the carp as an alternate food protein source, but carp have very good quality omega 3 and 6 fatty acids and well as bioactive amino acids that have potential use in the treatment of certain types of cancer (bowl cancer if I remember correctly). The ex...

Re: Carp herpes virus - alarm bells ringing

If I get into the Master of Philosophy course I am look at, my thesis will be about the use of carp as a resource beyond fertiliser and animal feed. Even if these are the only options available, dead or alive - clean or infected, there are viable uses for the carp.

Re: Top 10 Carp fishing spots round Melbourne

The Kyneton lakes, Malmsbury and Upper Coliban at least, have supplied me with many carp over the last six months; half a dozen 60+cm and one at 75cm.

Ah, camping by a river chasing Murray Cod; reminds me of my days with the the Sunshine Anglers Club back in the late 70's. I'll have to join you guy one year for nostalgia sack if nothing else. Best of luck to you all!

Exclusively land-based fishing for me, almost exclusively freshwater too.

Re: Is there less carp around at the moment?

They all seemed to have moved to the Kyneton area; the Upper Coliban and the Malmsbury reservoirs are thick with them.

Wombat Creek Dam? I was at the Upper Coliban yesterday, the fishing picked up once the wind died back after 6PM.

Re: float fishing

I still use floats regularly for trout and carp; I have a collection of the clear egg type floats and a number of waggler floats. As to when, it really depends. I always fish mudeyes under a float and often maggots as well, but I've got some decent trout just with a single scrubworb fished deep unde...
