Re: Shimano Charter Special
Yeah g'day again Tom. Been a bit quiet of late as I've had the nose down & bum up doing head gaskets on the GFs & my own cars. Both of em went at the same time. Guess a mechanic's work is never done. Had a pretty good snapper season this year with some great fish coming in. The whiting have been pat...

Re: Shimano Charter Special
Have a CN55 star drag I bought primarily for Kings but have found they're great on the greys. Also using a Titus 20 which is another of my fav reels. I personally like the Okuma reels. Have a couple of Salina IIs which I also love for snapper fishin '. Love to get my greasies on a Makaira to try on ...

Re: alvey reels
Prior to the introduction of the Shimano Baitrunner the Alvey Snapper Reel was 'the' reel of choice of 90% of PPB snapper fishos. They have lost favour a bit over the years but they still make great reels for the reds. I still have a set of 4 matched to US made Ugly Sticks - great outfits. Mate & I ...

Re: Reel Service
Yeah Alan Tani is a great guy. Always willing to help people out.
Have picked his brains on many occasions & also source a lot of parts through him for the reel servicing I do as a part time Biz'.
His web site is a brilliant resource.

Re: New Yamaha Motor Advice
Look, here's my advice as a mechanic with 35+ years experience. A new motor needs a period of time toi 'bed in' the rings. Too little 'duty cycle' (excess idling or too light load) will 'glaze' the bores, preventing the rings from bedding in. However, too much load can just as easily see the rings b...

Re: Travel Rod
This what I keep in the car. Can make up into anythin g from a 4' bait rod to a 7' SP rod, to an esturyy rod, boat rod, game rod, even a 13' surf rod. Keep 2 reels with it (4000 Okuma Salina 2 with 2 spools && a Quantum Cabo surf reel). Makes a great traveller. http://tacklebusters.com.au/the-travel...

Re: Small boating conditions
Ideal wind he. That's sorta like asking how long a piece of string is. There's just so many factors to consider. For starters there's boat size. if ya talking small tinny then the ideal wind is - none. I live in Werribee & mainly fish the western side of PPB prefer a South or Sou-easter. SE tends to...

Re: Hooks
Like Ducky I'm not a fan of the Black Magic hooks. Good when new no worries but I find they rust up pretty fast. I like Gamakatsu's & Owner's. I reckon the Owners are a bit bette quality but the Gama's are a bit thinner for better penetration maybe - never really found a geat deal of difference). I ...

Re: respooling a tld 20
I personally wouldn't top shot a tld with braid. Be a finger killer for sure. Chuck 30lb mono on it. Should get 300m+ Spot on I reckon Ducky. Braid is not only hard on the fingers but can cause hellish problems with 'cut in' if you hook into a decent fish. If it's being used for trolling there's al...
