Have been hitting the water with the new kayak recently, but haven't had any luck chasing reds. So far I've mainly been fishing around fisherman's beach + the mussel farm around mornington. If you're willing to travel a little - head to the grass beds towards Sorrento. But plenty of whiting in the grass beds in that area ~ you'll just need to do a bit of searching.

Not sure about Snapper at this time of year though.

Went out today and got two squid. Weather was actually ok - lots of sail boats around though. Good day to just familiarise myself with the yak. Looking forward to the next session!

Will be taking the yak out for its maiden voyage on Saturday, but unfortunately the forecast isn't too great. Congrats! Like mazman mentioned, check a nice calm low wind day, say 15kmh or less. Get all the safety stuff too. Very important. Someday this summer I will practice re-entry. I've fished fisherman's beach couple times on my yak, a good spot to fish on a yak, no need to travel too far off the beach...

Went new - had been keeping my eye out on used listings but hadn't been able to find one that I liked.
