Was there as well from about 3:30-7PM - plenty of pinkies and flatties, kept 1 of each.
I reckon the landbased fishing will start to pick up in a few weeks once the water warms up.

Re: New Landbased Spots for Spring
This is probably going to be an unpopular opinion but rock fishing really isn't that dangerous unless you're completely unaware of what it is you're getting yourself into. I've taken my 11yo stepson rock fishing dozens of times and the risk is only really as bad as you want to make it. There are an...

Re: New Landbased Spots for Spring
So for some rocks gear (for snapper) - is something like this suitable? https://www.anglerswarehouse.com.au/pro ... _rod_15324
Guessing it'd be too heavy for whiting, but I can probably use a 7ft rod, or one of my heavier egi rods for that?

Re: New Landbased Spots for Spring
Yeah definitely not keen on going shoulder to shoulder... Mornington pier in the summer is already too awful for me (as are most piers on that peninsula). That's the reason I was mostly heading to the rocks, and have been exploring some of the odder jetties down Sorrento way, some of them I've save...

Re: New Landbased Spots for Spring
This time of year til probably Sept, try to hunt for aussie salmon off rocks and beaches. Gunnamatta, back beaches and 90 mile beach can produce 1-2 kg aussie salmon and gummies. Oct-Nov you can get big snapper off mt martha rocks. What kind of gear would I need to prep in order to do that? My long...

Would I need to brave some rough weather to really have a crack, or is it something that can be done in relatively calm conditions?Lightningx wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2019 6:59 pmYep november around Mt Martha/ Martha cove for some very big reds lb

Re: New Landbased Spots for Spring
Something a little bigger, what would you like to target mate? I'm not quite sure myself - I mean any slightly bigger reds, flatties, or even if I could get onto some snook that'd be fantastic. Most of my fish that I've caught I'd say are just around legal size, nothing to scream home about. If I wa...

New Landbased Spots for Spring
Been fishing mainly around the piers on the Mornington Peninsula, and doing the odd trip out to Flinders pier instead here and there. Mt Martha rocks is always a nice change of pace and very very safe unless the rocks are slippery given that there's usually no swell/surf unless the wind is howling. ...

Re: going down mornington
Interesting to see some reports out of mornington - went a few times last month and it was dead quiet.
All the squid seem the be at the front of the pier where the rocks are - if conditions are good it seems like a good idea to walk down and around that rocky outcrop and fish from there instead.
