Re: Hooks.
Missing bites as in the rod buckled but didn't get a hookup on its own? Or no hookup when you strike? I'm assuming you were bait fishing. A lot of possibilities. From small fish nibbling, or they're slightly spooked after their mate got caught, or yes, blunt hook. Most fish has tough hard bony jaw ...

Hooks.
Just wanting Member's opinions on a theory I have been using lately. Have found that after I have caught several fish, "generally off the rocks", that I start missing bites. One day I decided to change my hooks after I missed a few bites to see if that maybe the hooks weren't sharp enough anymore. S...

Re: Wipe Out!
I would like to thank everyone for their feed back. That link regarding the ocean swell was interesting to say the least. There was a cool change on the way at the time and the Barometer was also falling at the time. Figure now that when there is a change on the way I will stay off the rocks and sti...

Re: Wipe Out!
Glad your ok Al Just had a look at the Cape Sorrell Wave buoy data for Tuesday there was only a small increase in wave size but significant increase in Wave period this may have been why a bigger more powerful wave surged over the ledge. Ok thanks. Am still trying to work out how that wave came fro...

Re: Wipe Out!
I've never gone rock-fishing (although I see the appeal from that ongoing rock-fishing thread) so perhaps this is coming from ignorance, but it seems like the kind of thing where lots of people are experts until they're suddenly, tragically ... not. Yup, good analogy, have I learnt my lesson. Just ...

Wipe Out!
I don't post on here very often, but thought I needed to share my near miss with the Member's. Went rock fishing on Tuesday of the Great Ocean Rd near Lorne on the Apollo bay side. Had a mate with me. Checked the tides beforehand, went to my one of my regular haunts where I have had good results bef...

Day trip looksee.
Had a day out on Friday. Fished Laanecoorie, the Loddon River and on the way home stopped in at Tullaroop for a peek. Consistency is my aim with fishing and once again I got donuts. Shore based only. Sorry to say that road access to Laanecoorie Weir is blocked. Used to fish just near the wall for mi...

Re: Ebay win tonight bargain or POS
Was using Abu 7000"S last week and realised that my thumb was pretty much touching the spool immediately after casting. Must of been a habit I picked up after countless bird nests. Beauty of this habit is that fishing at night when you can't see your rig, enables you to clamp down on the spool BEFOR...
