Snowy River To be Artificially Opened

The Snowy River outlet to the sea at Marlo has been sanded in for quite a few weeks now. Water levels in the estuary have been rising daily and is now at 0.8 mtrs above sea level and farming land has now been inundated. Parks Vic. have announced that next week (probably Tuesday or Wednesday) contrac...

Re: Snowy River To be Artificially Opened

UPDATE Nearly three weeks now since the sand bar was artificially opened and the estuary is slowly coming back to normal with good tidal flows again. The water in the estuary is still heavily coloured due to the silts being carried down from the run off from the flooded paddocks. The Brodribb River ...

Re: What's in your too hard basket?

Going back a couple of posts about catching garfish and the conversation regarding hooks and bait I'm going to mention that you don't need a hook or bait to catch them. All you need is a few lengths of either red or white hool tied directly to your line. No hooks, no bait and no weight or at best, a...

Re: Sick of this wind

The wind is so cold ATM it would freeze the balls of a brass monkey...... The story goes that cannonballs used to be stored aboard ship in piles, on a brass frame or tray called a 'monkey'. In very cold weather the brass would contract, spilling the cannonballs: hence very cold weather is 'cold eno...

Re: Who is the oldest active member

I'm in my seventies and can't quite do what I used to be able to do a few years ago.

Mind you, there are days when I feel like a twenty year old. Trouble is, no twenty year old will have me.

Point Ricardo Salmon

Weather was great today. Warm and sunny with just a very gentle northerly. A perfect day to hit the beaches. Had a great little spin session in the suds with high water about 4.00 pm. Had a few salmon, most just on size, but eventually a better model showed up. Just on 60 cm. Lure of choice was a sm...

EP's In The Swamp

It was bitter cold today in the estuary and the surf beaches were way to rough so I decided to explore the coastal swamps. Recent rains had flooded the swamps, which just a few short months ago had very little water in them. It wasn't easy going. The reeds in places were 10 foot tall and you could n...

Re: Pets that are Fishing Buddies

Here's my two, unfortunately only one now. We lost Winnie, the black and white one, just over a year ago. The other little bloke is Merlin. He's a chick magnet. Can't walk down the street without every chick we meet wanting to cuddle him.

They were both rescue dogs.

Billy Got Married

Billy came from the bush. It was no understatement to say that Billy was an avid fisherman. Most days after work and all weekends Billy could be found fishing in the local river and billabongs of his little bush township. He was well known to all the other local fishos. A while ago something strange...
