Long time reader, unlucky fisher

Hello all, Been reading fishing reports on this forum for the last few years since moving to Vic, although it hasn't helped me much. I am a keen fisherman and for the most part have had zero luck on my adventures in this fine state. Whenever I go home to SA, the fish start biting again. I am near th...

Rough day at Gunnamatta

Hey fellas, I just made my intro post last week saying I loved fishing again after a radical session on the Salmon out at Cape Bridgewater. Well, I looked closer to home this weekend, dragged myself out of a cosy bed on Sunday morning, and headed to Gunnamatta with the wife. I hate fishing again! Wh...

Re: Apollo Bay Harbour advice

Hey all, just a quick follow up after the weekend. Ended up having a much longer day on the road showing my visitors around, so I only had a bit of time on Saturday around sundown to fish off the jetty. Wind was blowing inland, so I ended up casting between the boats as it wasn't possible off the en...

Re: Apollo Bay Harbour advice

Yep, they are pretty fun to catch! I just prefer flicking lures / plastics nowadays as it's a bit more active (although nothing wrong with sitting back with some bait). I was on Kangaroo Island in SA over Christmas and I think every second cast off Kingscote Jetty I was getting hit with a big snook....

Re: Travel rods - budget vs premium?

Hey crew, very helpful posts so far, thanks for all the advice. I went to Anaconda today for a quick play around and definitely felt the difference with the nice multi-piece rods there vs mine. I will measure up the car boot and see what's doable. Right now my telescopics sit in a nice little box th...

Re: Warburton Trout?

Hey fellas. Well my report is donuts as the wife's shindig went on too long and I couldn't get away before dark. But the good news is we now have two lots of people living right near the river up there. I will try and get up next weekend or the one after for a proper shot. Also seems I'm out of spin...

Re: Sashimi Possibilities

Hey Croe. This article isn't a bad starting point, though it's from the US so lots of fahrenheit instead of C, and the regulations they cite are US ones not Australian. But in general it's not so bad, just stick to certain types of fish. https://www.seriouseats.com/2017/05/how-to-prepare-raw-fish-at...

Christmas Luck - Mackerel, Squid and Sea Sickness on telescopic rods

Hey all, Though I am best known here for asking for advice, and then failing to catch anything, going back home to SA usually delivers for me. As it did again this Christmas break! I had less time to go fishing than I planned, but most of it was pretty spot on for me. First trip was out on the boat ...

Re: Christmas Luck - Mackerel, Squid and Sea Sickness on telescopic rods

Top report and thanks for sharing it as it brought back some good memories, being an ex Sth Aussie you can't beat a feed of bluey's that's for sure.. used to love going to Gawler Beach, Middle Beach etc raking them on the sand flats on the out going & incoming tides.. I'm surprised you didn't get o...

Flinders Jetty 2/2 2020

Just a quick one. Popped down to Mornington yesterday for a quick fish in the afternoon. Meant to get there in the morning but I was wrangling a few friends too and we were all disorganised. Fished for a couple of hours for squid off Flinders Jetty. No sign of any fish. Our fault - middle of the day...
