Re: Beginner Egi Rod

I used to have that Rovex 8'6 rod. It's good for the price. 2500 reel with 10 lb line should be okay. I am now using Majorcraft Solpara, bought it around $115 I think. Very happy with it. I wrote a quick review about it in this forum, just search it. Plenty options if you're willing to spend around...

Re: Beginner Egi Rod

If im getting a solpara + caldia, should i may as well get a 2508 dh emeraldas combo, they come up at a similar price thanks Yeah the Caldia is a bit pricey. Any reels around 180 - 210 gm in weight should be good for it. The Stradic FK was around 250gm I think or 235gm, was okay but not as good. Un...

Re: Beginner Egi Rod

The rovex is just garbage.
Put some extra $$$ and get something better.
Ns Blackwater, major craft solpara etc..
I would wait for the Christmas sales to start soon, might be some bRgains to be had.
Tackleworld is having a big daiwa sale on atm, so have a look there as well.
Cheers

Hi all, gotten into the landbased squid game recently, and have been thinking of purchasing an egi rod. I currently run a 7ft shimano ballistix rod paired with a 2500 legalis for cephs, but have been having a hard time working jigs and casting. Did some looking and found a rovex squid specialist on...

Re: Beginner Egi Rod

I've had the opportunity to muck around with quite a few egi rods and so far I am yet to find something that performs like the solpara at the price point. A lot of the cheaper combos/rods that have been suggested here are just longer graphite rods with a slightly slower action and don't assist in ca...

Re: Beginner Egi Rod

You do get what you are paying for. If your someone who doesn't care how you catch the squid and just cast and retrieve a jig with the usual jerk and let sink retrieve. Then any rod or even a hand line will do the job. On the other hand, if you enjoy the concept of making the squid jig dart how you ...

Re: Beginner Egi Rod

What reel would you chuck on the solpara, don’t really know where to start, thanks for responding What's your budget for the reel? For squiding, the rod matters the most I'd say. And the reel, the lighter the better, but also means more expensive. around 100-200 In that price bracket I would recomm...
