Re: Soft Plastics Newbie

I like, and mostly use, 'aji' plastics. Apparently in Japan they use small, scented plastics to catch mackerel. Compleat Angler Dandenong started selling these plastics a while ago, billing them as ideal for catching ... anything, really. I picked up a few out of curiosity and was immediately impres...

'Whole Fish Cookbook' - Josh Niland

I'm a bit of a cookbook hoarder, so when it came out late last year I picked up a copy of Josh Niland's Whole Fish Cookbook . He has a restaurant in Sydney, as well as a 'fish butchery'. The term sounds a little wanky, but makes sense given what he does -- advocating the use of fish offal, and dry-a...

Soft plastics: as many species as I can possibly catch

I mostly catch-and-release, so I'm not too fussed about the size of fish or catching species for the table (although I'm happy to taste pretty much anything). I do maybe 90% of my fishing with soft plastics. I'm no expert, and I'm not the guy wearing Daiwa-branded clothing and a GoPro screaming out ...

Re: Beginner AND with kid...

As above, although I'd suggest dropping a line right down by the pylons. I mostly fish with soft plastic lures (not something that I'd recommend, in itself, to a newbie + child combo) and most of my fish have been pulled up from the pylons. Or former pylons, in the case of Frankston pier. Fish lurk ...

Re: Is Fishing Allowed under newest lockdown measures

The way I interpret this situation is as long as I ( we) keep adherence to the social distance rules then it should be ok. Having said that, if thousands try go fishing at once then we will have a big problem and will be forced to stop. I’m hoping to wet a line in a deserted place this weekend but ...

Re: Re-do my SP collection

As a general rule I like to keep plastics in the original packaging. Most of the plastics I buy are scented. The Z-Mans are notorious for not getting along with other brands. I operate under the assumption that other brands would just be happier if I left them packaged as I bought them. I have a cou...

Re: Covid-19 discussion

My daughter, who has been working from home 2 days a week, returns to full time work on the 1st of June (in the office). Anyone else been given a "return to work" timeframe ????? Gra I'm back on Monday, even though Grade 3-6 students (my customer base) aren't back then. I'm a science/technology tea...

Re: Show us your purchases!

My IsoFishingLifestyle order arrived today: a Daiwa Gekkas 74LS, Freams LT 2000S, and a few jigheads. First I thought my Itchy Twitchy was light, and then I picked up the Emeraldas and thought that was light ... but the Gekkas is like picking up a (really long and thin) small pack of Doritos. Crazy....

Re: Wipe Out!

I've never gone rock-fishing (although I see the appeal from that ongoing rock-fishing thread) so perhaps this is coming from ignorance, but it seems like the kind of thing where lots of people are experts until they're suddenly, tragically ... not.
