29/1/2020 report
Hi guys, how are you all?
I hadn’t been for a fish in ages and so I decided to head out for a fish on Wednesday with a mate of mine looking for a feed of kgw.
We met up at the ramp around 2 pm and launched out of st kilda and headed first to get a squid for some fresh bait.
First location and my mates very first cast he gets onto a nice squid and since we already had 2 kilos of fresh pippies as well we decided to head to our first kgw spot.
When we arrived there were a few other boats around we quickly anchored and dropped the burley bucket over the side and set out the rods. We used 4 rods all equipped with whiting snappers and for bait pippies and the fresh squid we had just caught.
Within a few minutes of the baits being in the water 2 rods load up but doesn’t feel like whiting. Too heavy to be whitings turns out we had a double hook up of banjoes
We stayed at this spot for half an hour but no whitings so we pulled up anchor and tried another spot not far away.
The place was packed we counted around 20 boats around and saw a few being caught but not much happening for us. Just another squid after another half an hour so we headed to another Mark we have done well in the past.
When we got to our spot the water was murky. Anyway set up the rods and the burley and it wasn’t long before we were getting small bites. Then a hook up and look over the side of the boat and yes it’s a whiting.
For the next couple of hours it was pretty full on.
We ended up with 31 whitings.
As it got later on in the day the whitings slowed down and we were plagued by small pinkies so we decided to call it a day and headed back to the ramp.
All in all was a great fun day on the water. It was a bit choppy heading out but was a beautiful drive heading back.
Cheers,
LX.
