KGW best frozen bait to use ?

Post by Grasshopper67 » Sun Apr 04, 2021 8:30 pm

Hi can someone advise me on best frozen bait to use when fishing for whiting. I know fresh is best for KGW and I have had success using fresh mussels/squid etc....but it’s not always easy to get fresh off the rocks mussels and I may not always land some fresh squid....so if I have to buy frozen bait then what frozen bait is best to catch KGW?

Is there a lure or soft plastic that is effective as an alternative ?

If you must use frozen then the humble packet of prawns is your best bet, I've caught Whiting on them at St Leonards.

without a doubt best frozen bait is pippis. pippis also better than fresh squid in my opinion. all based on experience. i know people who love using little pilchard fillets with a cocktail of pippi or squid. try and cover all bases, never found that fresh bait has made too much a difference with whiting fishing. note squid is better when you have the pesky leather jackets in plague numbers

Mate, I've found a box of them frozen California squid from the servo to be realy good. Great value and catches whiting and snapper no problem, you gotta cut them into strip's though. I love the frozen pippies too but find them anoying to open and they come off too easy if I cast hard. Frozen prawns are great but you don't get many bait up from them and they come off easy to bottom pickers too.

With frozen pipis, at the ramp I will put them in bucket of sea water , by the time I get to fishing spot pipis r unfrozen n easy to open.
I will generally open 20 pipis n put the meat on bait board n schell's in water for burly.
