Full Moon

Went out early Saturday morning 5.00am and tried several of the areas I've heard the helpful fisherman on this forum refer to before.
Tried few spots around inner governor reef, then few spots around green stick St Leonards, then bit further south to yellow marker and then no.3 Coles channel marker. Didn't get one single bite from a whiting. I was using 3 rods with paternoster and pillies, fresh squid and fresh mussels.

Was just wondering whether the full moon played a part? Day wasn't a total loss as I got 10 squid in pretty quick succession at governor reef and then got 10 flatties bit further out at about 10m near the channel. Still had a good day but just trying to crack the code of getting on to the whiting.

I tenderize Squid strips with a kitchen mallet (normally used for meat) this releases the natural squid odor, take mussels, pippis, prawn as back ups, it helps to use a long leader for tidal areas and KL whiting hooks, fish the moving tides still water gets you toadies and the like, anchor around weed, sand patches and broken ground, use a lead weighted burley pot so it's on the bottom not free floating, these are tried methods and work for me.

I've always found full moons to make the fish a little weird, depending on if the moon is visible. There have been some beautiful kgw whiting after dark at the pier amongst the semi-lit water on Monday after the rain, but they also were hesitant to bite. Squid on a paternoster, with a decent length leader.

I never had good fishing around full moon. No scientific proof but I believe it has something to do with it. Or maybe my bad luck fishing always happen periodically once a month, who knows. Lol.

I did have a weighted burley pot and was fishing the sandy spots inbetween the weeds at all places I tried. I was using no.4 long shank hooks and was fishing for so long that I would have fished both running and slack tides.

The length of the the leader you're referring to.. Is that the length from the hook on the paternoster? I was using the paternoster I've heard Denis refer to a few times on this forum with the 2 x 3-way swivels.

We fish with around a metre long leader for whiting and in that area around full moon late arvo and early morning before sun up

This is what I think and use.
But used the same as yours in past and caught them. When they're aggressive though. Recently I got one on a running sinker with 5/0 hook and whole squid head. Lol.
When they're picky, that 1m extended paternoster works well.
