Carp fillets as bait?
Hey there,
I've been catching a few carp latley and I've been thinking of ways to use there headless bodies, I've used them as garden fertilizer before but I don't have a massive garden so 2 is enough and the others i put in a shallow grave on the river bank, I was wondering if carp fillets would be any good as cod bait? And are you aloud to even do it? I know there not ment to be returned to the water alive but does the same rule apply if there dead?
Cheers

I have successfully used carp fillets for Murray Cod. They will eat almost anything eg cheese, chicken, sausages various meats. Can return to water dead; crays and yabbies etc will appreciate them

Glad I saw this post - I was going to post roughly the same question. I imagine a nice strip of carp fillet on a hook would be as good a cod bait as any.

I'm pretty sure in the regulations ban carp as any type of bait and definitely not allowed to return to the water whether they're dead or not unless it has been changed

From the VFA website
Carp are a noxious species: Must not be returned to the water alive. Kill the carp immediately. Do not leave the dead fish on shore at the fishing location. Dead carp can be returned to the water – cut the carcass so that it sinks.
Nothing about using them for bait.

If you can put chopped up carp carcasses into the water you can certainly use a bit as bait.
