Isn’t it funny that they are greeny brown but put them in an aquarium and they turn blue

I used to have tropical fish dropped in some small yabbies I had left over bait. One survived lived under a rock it turned blue and grew so big the fish were scared of him in the end

Yeah I used to catch them and keep them as pets. Couldn’t keep more than one in a tank or they’d try to kill each other. None of them every changed colour even though I had some for a while.
Maybe it was the warm water that turned yours blue.

Re: Yabbies tell me somethings in the air
I started keeping them when i was about 10, started with 1 real big fella and one day i noticed 2 in the tank.. never knew the shed there skin in 1 piece and the skin looks exactly like a live yabby. I had 12 in with my tank along with Bristol nose catfish, sucker catfish, minnows, snails and goldfish. The yabbies only killed the goldfish if the goldfish was crook in someway. They never bothered any of the fish though. All turned blue after a few weeks in fresh clean water.

Re: Yabbies tell me somethings in the air
Ive got a 120lt tropical tank. I have always thought about putting a yabby in there, but i have a lot of bottom feeders (catfish, corys etc) and was worried that the yabby would catch them.

If you have a nice planted tank Yabbies will destroy it, digging things up and changing their environment,I won't put them in my tropical tanks again.
