I think i upset Neptune

Post by SteveoTheTiger » Fri May 15, 2020 7:13 pm

I have definitely done something to upset the fishing gods.

You guys might remember my last attempt to get out on the water just before the lockdown ended up with me having to repair the steering on my boat. I wasnt able to fix it until the lockdown started.

Well, i was meant to head out this afternoon for a few hours but the gods struck me down again.

After spending all morning giving the boat a good going over, chucking out stuff i dont want anymore, cleaning this, lubing that etc etc. It came time to hook her up to the new Ranger and take off. Only what do i find.. the bloody trailer lights wont work. Not a single light.

I had a bit of time so i took off to see if i could get the lights and car tested and it turns out that there is a problem with the trailer plug on the ute.. i havent tried to tow anything since i picked it up about 6 months ago so i never knew there was a problem. I have checked out the fuses and they seem fine so other than that i dont really know. Im going to have to book it in to be looked at.

Buy a new one, Reasonably easy to replace
Also comes with wiring guide or just wire it the same as your trailer plug
Nothing at all is a bit of a problem, have you got one of those $2 test pens to see if there's power to the plug ??

Yeah there is no power going to the plug on the back of the Ranger. So i checked the trailer module and light fuses, which is a pain in the arse in itself. But the fuses seemed fine.. they are the large square type ones with the clear window in the top. One 20A and one 40A. The wire inside didnt seem to be broken or anything. I think i will replace the fuses anyway, just in case its only that.

After that im afraid my level of expertise ends.

I am not familiar with the rangers but most car within the last 15 years are plug and play wiring so to speak. There is no cutting and joining of wires it should either just plug in to a port in the fuse box or a port at the back of the car or in the boot. They are designed to override parking sensors so that they don't keep going off.

Maybe just try tracing back the wire and making sure it's all plugged in and connected properly before paying someone.

Good luck.

Lot of the newer model cars have that similar issue along with not being able to turn off the reverse sensor beeping.
The genuine towbar kits from the manufacturers have them, but third party ones don't.
So make sure you have the right ones.
