Just came back from Gar Fushin at St Leonards boat Harbor near the main pier -got13
Best time mornin just before sunlight, run out best tide but will bite on both-They only bite for about 2 hrs in the mornin
Try this GPS S38 10 317 E 144 43 315 thats the one I fish most times for gars-near a Yellow 5 knot marker pole
Silver fish best bait for me under a float with a No 10 long shank hook
Frozen Tuna oil and Fish Oil berley
Good Luck

I've found the afternoons productive, averaging over ten so I'm feeling they're around all throughout the day.
Agree with them being on and off the bite.
Tuna oil works best, you'll see them schooling and feeding in the slick. I use tuna oil soaked bread then toss out a breadcrumb mix.
Best of luck!
