As usual, like last time, too many source extrapolation assumptions, giving them confusing interpretations, rather than sticking to exact wording of regulations, which is ultimately determines an offence or not.

Reality if someone does their best following "official" sounding releases and still gets fined because there are exclusions elsewhere, they can hardly be held responsible.

It does make sense that you should go to closer location, no need to travel from one end of metro to the other, thats not essential, its a luxury preference. This should be clearly stated from all sources so people are not misled. Much like saying the guy drove from willy to mornington to shop at mornington coles.

I rang VFA to voice my opinion, they were clueless
If you live in Epping you can't go to Mornington, but, maybe somewhere like Station pier
I haven't studied any maps. You'd have to insist that you don't fish fresh water only salt
Cheers Gra

VFA sound like amateur hour.

At the end of the day DHS is the one calling the shots and I would suggest following what they say. If the English comprehension inside VFA is so bad they can't read the guidelines from the DHS then I'm not sure I'd want to be risking a big fine following their advice.

What happens if you launch off Altona but fish St Leonards out of the red zone? Logic says you should be fine but technically you've left metropolitan Melbourne.

As long as you don’t come ashore for fish and chips you’re fine.
