Tow vehicle recommendations

Post by PhilN » Fri Oct 16, 2020 8:50 pm

Hi All,

Hoping for some recommendations on good, reliable tow vehicles.

Priorities (in order)
Towing capacity 350kg/3500kg
Second hand
Price range ~$20,000
Easy to park/drive around (eg will also be used as only daily drive around car)
Reliable and easy/low cost to maintain

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance,
Phil

So many options
You need to decide whether you want a 4 wheel drive or Awd Suv
I think the only 4wd rated to 3500 is the v6 Amarock and possibly the Isuzu Dmax but probably be struggling to get one for under 20k unless its done a million kays

You’ll be lucky to find something that meets all that mate.

Does it have to be 3500kg? An r51 pathfinder will tow 3 ton (it’ll hate it but it will legally tow it) fairly economical around town and sub $20k. I have one.

If you’re talking genuine 3500kg your in landcruiser territory which are neither cheap nor economical.

There is a big difference between 350kg and 3.5 tonne

You are talking a Kia Rio vs a V8 Landcruiser.

I've got a BT-50 and they have a 3500kg Braked Towing capacity. The come out of the same factory as a Ranger but a lot cheaper. They are 3.2l Turbo diesel I get approx 9.5L/100km which is pretty good. You can pick up some of the UP models for under $20k something like this.
