Does anyone have their own dam or private lake? I'm curious to know:
1) What was involved in setting one up;
2) How big it is;
3) What species fish you stock,
4) Costs in setting it up, and
5) Any pitfalls to be aware of or tips you have
Cheers

Re: Private Dams and Lakes
Mate had a farm out of Euroa with spring fed dams, the water was no good for fish stocking. My uncle's farm at Mirboo had a spring fed dam, stocked with trout. The trout had a muddy taste to them, we'd fish Turtins creek instead of the dam.
I haven't brought a Weekly Times for a long while, but, a bloke used to advertise fish for dams. I going on memory, I'm reasonably sure he recommended perch, not trout.
Water ain't water Sols

Have chipped in to have a few different farm dams stocked with cod goldens and bass. Haven’t fished them yet.

Re: Private Dams and Lakes
Thanks guys,
@rb85, have you been paying to stock other people's dams with fish in exchange for the right to fish them? I'd be curious to hear more about that arrangement if that's the case.
In theory a group of people could create a syndicate where all pool their funds to create a private fishery. I've heard of that happening in the UK but not locally.

A stocking syndicate could work but I imagine there would be legal loopholes to restrict anyone else fishing. A few fishing clubs have access to private dams etc
