Your Tackle Box Setup

Post by SteveoTheTiger » Mon Apr 06, 2020 4:08 pm

Just going through the shed yesterday looking at the 2 full shelves i have of random tackle boxes and all the assorted trays that come with them and i started thinking that there has to be a better way! How do you guys carry around all of your fishing gear? Is it all neatly in one box, or multiple boxes like me?

Over the years i have collected hundreds of dollars worth of tackle boxes in my seemingly endless search for that perfect storage solution.
I have a number of basic 1 or 2 tier tackle boxes, 2 very expensive Plano boxes ($130 and $250 each), a number of smaller bags, wallets and pouches and seeming endless pile of random tackle trays from tackle boxes that are long gone. I have even bought and (thankfully) returned 2 $100+ backpack style tackle bags.

So my go to solution is a simple, cheap $30 Jarvis Walker tackle bag that carries a tray of tackle, 2 double sided squid jig trays and random odds and ends (knives, pliers, leader, etc etc). The size of this bag is perfect as it allows me to slide it under my seat in the boat, freeing up the deck and side pockets. And it has enough pockets to carry a lot of things outside of the main tackle box compartment.

The problem is that it doesnt fit all the stuff i like to cart around. I also have a cheap Bunnings tool box with a bunch of stuff i have bought that is still in packets.. mostly lures. And i have a Pryml Tackle Wallet that holds all my soft plastic stuff (jigs and the plastics themselves).

The hunt for the perfect tackle box will go on.

Do you always fish from a boat? or do both boat and land based fishing?

This is from the boat. I normally only go land based when im camping or on holiday. In that case i usually just take a tackle wallet with what i think i will need (really need.. not "might need").

Saph. That would probably be my setup if i was going land based. I have an Abu Garcia messenger bag that i use to carry my stuff for that. But i pretty much never go land based any more.

Nude Up. luckily i dont go big game fishing or else i dont know where i would store all those big lures and stuff haha. I would definitely need a bigger boat. 23 foot Bertam or something.

Oh yeah, ive also got a ute :tu:

Personally I like to have just a heap of different trays with each one containing a particular type of gear/lure

When I finally organise the shed I keep my stuff in I'll be doing a vid on how I like to have everything sorted and a few tricks I've found that make life on the water easier

🎼🎵🎶

There once was a Gra with a ute.
And Steveo had one which was bute.
But the pick for me,
was Tex's with VB.
But I'm sure that they are both a hoot.
