I can't think of anywhere in australia where you would ice fish but on youtube people use fishfinders on ice lakes

I've been ice fishing a few times - it was over 2 decades ago but I remember using a fish finder. From memory the transducer was on a cable and dropped into the drilled hole. You could use something like a deeper, but depending on how thick the ice is - the transducers cone would be restricted (hence the transducer on the cable to get below the ice.

Where did you go ice fishing? Surely not in Australia? Lol

Fat chance in hell I’d be stepping into the ice at somewhere like mount bulla

Yeah was cool to do - did the whole drive the Ford F250 out onto the middle of the lake, drill though 1m+ of ice and set up the fishing box with the gas heater.

Nah haven't had a chance to target those - the staples ice fishing were pannies like crappie and perch, then small trout and walleye (no monsters).
