Pliers for salt

Post by happyfriggincamper » Thu Aug 27, 2020 12:33 pm

Looking for some pliers under $30 that will fare a little better rust wise than your standard pair of $10 pliers.

Looking at some Teflon coated and aluminum options around the $20 mark. Will be used on mostly bread and butter species and not really going to be doing excessive maintenance on them, hence looking for something cheap that will last OK for a year or so with just a freshwater wipe down.

Any experience or suggestions?

I've got the standard Kmart/Jarvis Walker brand pliers, they've rusted up but WD40/Lanox/CRC gets them moving again whenever they seize up and they've lasted for years.

With all the fancy materials, coatings and treatments on the more expensive pliers I reckon my rusty anodised mild steel ones have done alright for the $5 I spent on them. Only casualties have been the few I've lost over the side of the kayak.

Got these the other month and so far they've held up without a scratch to a dunking, pulled out from rocks after being wedged in tight a few times, dropped on concrete, stood on, numerous uses on braid and flurocarbon of the cutting part and removing countless hooks from fish all without getting a wash or even a wipe down. For $15 If they last 12 months I'm bloody happy

Their good for reaching in 45 to 50mm Max, I find I rarely need to go further then 25mm to get a hook out.
