WP bycatch surprise.

Post by PoddyMullet » Sat Mar 15, 2014 5:14 pm

For those that haven't seen a pic yet, this unusual giant came in on a squid head last Thurs on WP. Fouled hooked via a flipper, it was released quickly, after a coupla pics. It was a moment where ya just get honoured by what nature can throw ya way. Nice to meet an Old timer (and original Mirage Drive designer)! .

Verified as a Green Turtle on RedMap. And I'm told the amount of fat on it's neck is an indicator of good health (a fact I'm now telling my good lady). :Boxing:

That is just simply AWESOME ! you are very lucky to experience such a close encounter ..

and another reason netting should be banned in bays like WP & PPB to protect these ancients ...

A very rare moment and one to treasure ... He/she has seen more of WP than any of us here on the forum ... Dammed not wrong about banning netting to protect them!!!

think your right nude up, last i heard was they end up down here due to confusion of some kind, my partner had a client who worked at the aquarium when the one who washed up on new years eve was there and he was telling her all about it...

Awesome :a_goodjob: , I've never seen a saltwater turtle in Vic waters.

I've come across heaps of smaller freshwater turtles while fishing lakes and rivers and so forth , but never a sea turtle.

Great pics and good stuff on getting it free again. Lucky you caught it and not some tourist , or it could of ended up as turtle soup !.

Makes me wonder how old that turtle is ? , it is a fair size , I recon it would probably easily be around the 50+ years old mark ?

Cheers , Rick.
