In a similar vein, I went the Big W at Altona Meadows to pick up toys and saw most of the Jarvis Walker combos/lures/sinkers are half off. Ended up picking a few packs of 4-pack chrome slices ($5 a pack of 4) which is perfect for kids since if they lose them, it won't pinch as bad as a $10 halco.

Jarvis Walker reels are not the best, but they had a decent 5000 size 3bb "pro hunter" combo matched with a 6ft 2pc rod for $22 which I picked up a few sets. Other than the chrome slices, I picked up a few bags of sinkers since you can never have enough spare sinkers of various shapes and sizes.

Not sure if its at all BigW stores (not shown online)

It is no surprise tackle stores are dropping like flies.

They have absurdly low margins and everyone is trying to gain market share by throwing sales after sale after sale.

And then they make even less money.

And then they run out of money.

It is an over-saturated industry and it has needed some correction for a while now.

i may be wrong here, but i think kmart and big w are cutting down their range a bit, some of the tsunami stuff has been 1/2 price and hasnt been on the shelves for a while now for eg.

is getting fishing stuff at bw or km even good? is the quality any good? I'm looking to buy a surf rod maybe 7 foot 2 piece but its just to expensive. under 60 buckaroos would be preferable.

It's all relative to how fishing active you are, if you fish a handful of times a year then modestly cheap gear will get you by.
If you thrash the water to foam with many trips every month then you would invest in quality gear made to last longer.
It's the old saying you get the quality you paid for, don't expect champagne on a beer budget.
