Snappos Report 18/11

Post by TheGreatestGoat » Sun Nov 19, 2017 2:43 pm

Gday All,

With a mate down from QLD he was staying with me this weekend and was pretty keen to get his first ever snapper. The pressure was on.

Despite him getting in at 11.30 I told him to have a good serving of concrete as we were up at 3.30 Saturday morning. Launched at 4am at Willy, and belted over Fawkner Beacon. Sounded a bit on the way but nothing. Got a bit of rain, but luckily cleared up pretty soon.

Fawkner was reamed as was expected but found some fish South west of the beacon near the channel and got set up. My mate showed me how to use the anchor bridle that's been sitting in a box gathering dust as I couldn't work out how to use it, stoked about that.

After about 20 mins first rod buckled and my mate landed his first ever snapper at just over 3.5kg. Couple of minutes later another rod goes and land another fish of 3kg. Whiting rod with snapper snatcher (a boat staple now) goes next and it's a big one. My mate strikes and being circles pulls the hook.

Land another 40cm and release it. Then I get a serious buckle.I can feel it's a good fish probably 6kg+, about half way into the fight a big head shake and pop. Hook snapped, snapper had absolutely mangled it. Ah well. After that things went quiet. Ended up taking home the 2 fish. Weather was unreal and top morning on the water.

Cheers,
Goat
