Mouth of the Patterson River

Post by smokin_reels » Thu Jun 23, 2016 1:46 pm

Hey Guys,

Im heading out to chuck some slugs this saturday morning at the mouth of the patterson river , hoping for some salmon.

There's an early high tide and will be fishing the run out.

Will keep all of you posted on what I catch.

Any tips are well appreciated.

I actually prefer plastics when fishing the patto. A zman slim swimz in pearl or smoke hologram is usually what i use but most small paddle tails and minnow soft plastics will work in similar colours

Was windy , cold and miserable. Decided to brave the weather and go for it .
The river was obviously running dirty coz of all the rains .
Regretted not having any bait with me.

Spun some slugs in the surf, ran a few smaller lures and slugs all through the river. No touches.

Had a take from a fish on a zman GrubZ, hooked for sometime and then dropped the fish when it swum towards me .
Saw some other guys fishing with bait as i was leaving. I reached at 530 AM , stayed till about 9 . Rained on and off . Some rainbows in the horizon made a fish-less morning special.

I will be back when the the weather is better :)

The river is running full and to the banks !

Also , Shoutout to the guys who were fishing the mouth of the river on Sat morning, precariously perched on the walls of the channel. Top Stuff .

I've only fished the mouth for Bay trout and mullet. White 2-3inch soft plastic or a small metal slug for the salmon. Burley up and use chicken under a pencil float for the mullet. Neither of these fish has been very thick down there in the last two weeks from what I have seen.
