Black rock 29/10/2019

Post by wem21 » Wed Oct 30, 2019 8:08 am

Hi guys, back from a long hiatus where I was focussing on school, exams are over now so I'm back :)

Went out to black rock last night with soft plastics, and on the third cast out towards the shipwreck I felt something pulling. I slowly reeled it in and as soon as it got the surface, I could see a squid following it! Instantly switch to jigs and within the minute a tiny 15cm squid on the pier.

Another group of fishos caught a tiny pinky, maybe around 15-20cm, nothing else caught that night (as far as I'm aware, left around 9:30 when the wind picked up).

All in all good trip after months of no fishing,
Cheers

Noice

I heard of Ricketts point if fishing good, isn't it a marine sanctuary?
Thinking of going there too on the yak, but without GPS map, how would I know the marine sanctuary area

There is a marine sanctuary at ricketts but outside of the sanctuary fishes very well too, lots of reef. I'm pretty sure there are markers which show the marine sanctuary boundaries, and the vic fishing app also has a 'can I fish here feature' which uses your phone's location services to check if you can fish where you currently are, and if you are in the sanctuary it tells you. As long as you launch from the right side of fourth street and don't drift to the left too much you'll be fine.

As already mentioned, stay outside the yellow poles.
If you fish inside them then your fishing illegally.
The poles are in a big line from rickets point to halfmoon bay.
There will be plenty of boats around the area now so you cant miss where to fish.
Many if the kayak guys launch from the beaumaris tea huts or club I think it's called. I'm sure they can give you a hand with some locations

Thanks. I was just googling that tea place thing, not sure what that is. But the yacht club looks okay to launch.
