What's your favourite? Black Bream or Yellowfin Bream.

In my part of Victoria we're lucky and have both species on hand.

For looks, the yellowfin gets my nod. The body seems more silver in colour and of course the yellow fins look stunning. They also seem to be a bit taller in the shoulders than a black bream.
Mind you, a big black bream wins the prize for looking real bad ass!

Fight wise I can't pick any difference. They both go hard.

Taste wise I can't pick any difference either.

I have a feeling that the two species hybridise at times as sometimes it's hard to pick the specie.

I’m a Gippsland boy so for me, black Bream reign supreme

(Yes I know Far East Gippsland can produce yellow fin bream)

I've never caught yellow fin bream. I'm assuming they're in far east of Vic.

I don't know Dougie. You willingly eat a salmon but sneer at a bream? Maybe it's a Victorian thing.

Compliments of the season, Col.

Every year we go to Bemm River and whenever the entrance is open you will get Yellowfin Bream up there. Because they come from the sandy bottom of the beaches they are very silver and the fins are a real intense yellow. The body is more rounded than a Black Bream but as far as eating and fighting wise they are pretty much the same. Here is a picture of a Yellowfin Bream a mate of mine caught up there a couple of years ago 1.52kgs :tu:

I love both. They both have their unique traits.
Yellows definitely are more aggressive to a lure and are easier to tempt on a lure, not needing much input in terms of variations of retrieves.
They definitely have a more taller body frame and look awesome.

Blacks are definitely more agro looking of the two.
Fight dirtier i recon
Weigh a lot more for the same size
And are definitely a lot more hardier than yellows.
They are also lot more harder to tempt on a lure and can be extremely fussy some times.

My experience with yellows are a lot less than blacks.
Im not a fan of the taste of either.

I'm not sneering at anything, they make a spectacular livebait.
