Struck out - again!

Post by JeremyG » Sat Sep 28, 2019 10:33 am

Took the boys out in the tinny this morning and came back empty handed. Same thing happened two weeks ago. Been fishing mainly off skeleton creek area, both on the flats and in deeper water. Using pilchards and squid on paternoster and running snelled rigs but haven’t even got a bite let alone a fish!

Noticed lots of boats out this morning but most moving around a fair bit, which tells me no one’s having much luck??

Any tips or reports? We’re relatively new to boat fishing but usually get some good flat ties in that area at least. Obviously hoping for some pinkies it snapper but zero action... 😩

Fishing is still tough, but keep at it mate, because the top end of the bay will go off with a bang very soon. Water temps are picking up and fish are starting to move in. It won't be long before it's total chaos. Late arvo for the pinkies at the moment from what I'm hearing.

The only thing not far from ramp is squid
Anywhere 2-4m just inside the red stick is holding squid

Well that answers my question. I've seen boats drifting along the red stick lately, wasn't sure if they were on the squid or plastics for pinkies.

Yup. I’ve seen them there too. Might try getting some squid there next weekend before heading to Cardinal Mark and catching that snapper!

Found it real easy to get squid between point cook and Altona and using them as fresh bait has worked well in shallower waters just of Altona assuming because the water is abit warmer there if your keen to fish for pan size snapper, dusk and dawn have been best for snapper but have been able to get squid through the day
