How did you go? I wanted to head down but had babysitting duties.

G'day mate, apologies for late reply, been having some phone difficulties. But here goes:

Arrived around 8am (almost no fisherman on the jetty) with two rods pre-set. First rod rigged with a light paternoster and small lead on the end and the second with a squid jig (never know your luck down flinders way). Brought some prawns, Pipi and fresh mackerel fillets for bait.

Headed down to my usual spot on the lower landing at the end of the jetty and got into it straight away. Cast the squid jig put under a float and baited up some fresh mackerel. Within ten minutes had a surprise run of jack mackerel come through and gobble up the mackerel fillets one by one. After pulling five up they all left and never returned. Short time later swapped the bait up to Pipi and waited for all of the little bait thieves to have a nibble. Fast forward two very frustrating hours of nibbles and rebaiting constantly, ended with a nice size Wrasse and two nice fat leather jackets. Done and dusted by 10:30ish and off home. As I was leaving, the pier became extremely busy and noisy.

All in all, great way to spend the morning and ended with a couple of nice fish for a feed and some more bait for the freezer :)

Thats my usual bag out at Flinders.

Still, sure beats donuts! well done Paul. I'm sure you lost a lot of bait to the Leather jackets.

Thanks guys :)

I was pretty surprised with no squid either, especially on the run in tide, but as I was leaving a little asian lady pulled a little baby squid in so maybe if I kept it up for a while? Ah well always next time!

Hahaha Leatherjackets are a pain with the bait stealing but great to eat :) I did have a flick around for whiting but again, no joy!

Heading down there again most probably this weekend, I'll post if I go, maybe a couple of you are up for a fish :)

Cheers!

Mate if they're fat enough (like this one) I'll cook them up. They're not bad eating :)
