Beginner Egi Rod

Hi all,
gotten into the landbased squid game recently, and have been thinking of purchasing an egi rod. I currently run a 7ft shimano ballistix rod paired with a 2500 legalis for cephs, but have been having a hard time working jigs and casting. Did some looking and found a rovex squid specialist on sale for $50. If I were to buy it, what would I pair with it? Are there any other brands/models you'd recommend for a beginner? Other advice or help I'd appreciate heaps.
thanks, ronan

I used to have that Rovex 8'6 rod. It's good for the price. 2500 reel with 10 lb line should be okay.
I am now using Majorcraft Solpara, bought it around $115 I think. Very happy with it. I wrote a quick review about it in this forum, just search it.
Plenty options if you're willing to spend around $100-$200.
They have the 7' too but for landbased, 8'6 is good.

I don't know what he's charging for them now but I picked up my Rui rod for about $220 and it's great.

just read your review, was a good one :tu: . If I were to get the solpara, I'd get the heavy model, bcs I mainly fish portc and sorrento. What reel would go well with it? Was it a stradic you had on yours? cheers

Yes I paired it with Stradic FK 2500 when I tested it the first time. I sold that reel and bought Daiwa Caldia LT 2500, much lighter and well balanced with the rod. The Stradic FK was a tad heavy.
Stradic Ci4 should suit it too. The LT models from Daiwa are nice and light. Tried the Solpara with Freams LT 2500 too few weeks ago, same with the Caldia, well balanced.
What's your budget btw?
That Rovex at $49.95 is good value for money, had it and used it a lot til its got stolen. If you could get a Solpara, I'd say get the Solpara.
Any reels around 180 - 210 gm in weight should be good for it.
The Stradic FK was around 250gm, was okay but not as good.

Yeah the Caldia is a bit pricey.
Any reels around 180 - 210 gm in weight should be good for it.
The Stradic FK was around 250gm I think or 235gm, was okay but not as good.

Unsure about emeraldas reel. The new one seems good.
When I had it with Freams LT, was more than good enough.
But again, you can spend as much or as little. Pretty much on anything.

I have the shorter version of the rovex and it stinks in comparison to my sephia.

Honestly I wouldn’t say it’s any better than using what you already have. The 8’ version might be a bit different though.....
